Dakota Southeastern Division TLR

  • Membership/location

Our model train club membership is based in and around the Sioux Falls area in southeastern South Dakota.

We number about two dozen members at present.

The 2007 meeting schedule is the first Thursday evening for odd numbered months and usually the first Saturday of the month during even numbered months.  Sites rotate among members’ homes.  This change is to allow more members with Thursday evening commitments to participate.

  •   Highlights from 2006

During 2006 we sponsored tours of two area rail sites—the regional DM & E operations center as well as Midwest Rail Car Repair in Corson.

In October we sponsored a regional open house.  Five members’ home layouts were featured as well as the Sioux Valley Model Engineers’ Society (SVMES) club layout at the Fairgrounds.  Over 100 guests attended the Saturday afternoon event.

  • Programming planned for 2007

For 2007, we again plan a fall open house tour (with all new home layouts featured).

A tour of the local quarry and rail service from there is also on tap.

“How to” clinics (there were three in 2006) will feature how to photograph your model railroad layout, freight car tune-up to improve performance, and scenery clinics/work sessions on our modular club layout.
